After three years, Carleen welcomed back its village show and the weather remained nice throughout.

On the morning of the Carleen and District Village Show exhibitors arrived early, placing their exhibits for judging which took place a while later. There was one judge for every class, which included fruit, vegetables and flowers.

The standard was said to be high and the children's section described as "very impressive, with imagination and skill".

After lunch the public were allowed in to the show for viewing, and exhibitors came to see what certificates they had won and read comments from the judges.

Chairman of the village show committee Viv Treloar said: "After three years of no show there were a lesser number of exhibits than previous years, but that was to be expected, due to the circumstances. At least we had a show, many shows in the area had not taken place this year and we hope it will be even bigger next year."

Homemade food, including bacon and egg pie and saffron cake with drinks were available from the kitchen and there was brisk business too. Raffle tickets were also sold for many prizes.

Later on in the day, it was time for the presentations, with cups given by Simon Colgan, chairman of Carleen Village Hall committee, who thanked all the committee, partners and volunteers for all the hard work put into planning and execution of a brilliant show. He also praised the exhibits and exhibitors.

Towards the end of the show, the raffle was drawn and prizes collected, Simon made a presentation of a bouquet to Viv, who has been in charge of the show for 19 years and is still going strong.

Viv also praised the three new secretaries, Ann Dyke, Ann Buckley and Gillian Rosewarne, who had never been part of organising the show before, but Viv said they "did a sterling job."
