The Air Ambulance had to be called after a baby fell from a wall in St Ives Harbour yesterday evening.

The baby was with its parents at the time of the fall which is reported to have been around 12 feet.

The Cornwall Air Ambulance was called shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday and landed on the beach as concerned passers by looked on.

The infant was airlifted to hospital but police say the injuries it sustained were not believed to be serious at this stage. No other details were given.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were made aware of a concern of welfare of an infant who had reportedly fallen from a wall yesterday evening, Tuesday 20 September.

"The incident happened on St Ives Harbour. The Air Ambulance attended the scene and the infant was taken to hospital. Injuries are not believed to be serious at this stage.

"Family were present at the time of incident."

A spokesman for HM coastguard said: "We received a call shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening reporting an incident involving a child in St Ives. The coastguard rescue team from St Ives was sent to set up a safe landing site for the air ambulance."
