A HELSTON man who was found guilty of harassing a woman has appeared in front of magistrates Truro for sentencing.

Marcus Ian Gunn, aged 42, of Gweek, near Helston, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 13 2022 on one count of harassment without violence.

Gunn initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, however, magistrates eventually found him guilty of the offence which took place in Helston over a period of time last year.

Magistrates found that, between Thursday, July 22 2021 and Saturday, August 14 2021, Gunn pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of a female victim.

Gunn persistently contacted the victim when he knew that contact was unwanted, he would also go to her home, enter her home without permission, set up a facebook account in a false name in order to contact her, sent her unwanted letters and cards and followed her around shops she was in.

Gunn was found guilty when he appeared in court on Friday, July 8 2022.

During his sentencing, Gunn was made the subject of a community order under which he must carry out unpaid work for 90 hours within the next twelve months.

A restraining order was also taken out against him which banned him from directly or indirectly contacting the victim or enter an address in Helston for two years.

Alongside this, Gunn was also made to pay compensation of £100 and pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £95 as well as pay costs of £775 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
