This year's Moonlight Memory Walk will not be held in Falmouth this year, for the first time in more than a decade.

Instead, Children’s Hospice South West’s said this year's charity walk will take place at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, near Mevagissey, which has chosen CHSW as its charity of the year.

This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 12 from 6pm and there are still early-bird discounted tickets available.

The Moonlight Memory Walk offers people the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones alongside their friends and family.

The evening will begin with a memory ceremony, before walkers then make their way around the 4km route through the calm and beauty of Heligan’s lit paths. There is also a virtual option for those wishing to take part in their own time and location.

Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser for CHSW, said she is excited to be bringing the event to Heligan.

“We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to hold our Moonlight Memory Walk at Heligan this year. It is a very poignant event and this incredible venue is going to make the evening all the more special so please take advantage of the early-bird tickets and get yours booked now," she said.

Walkers are encouraged to raise sponsorship for CHSW in memory of their loved ones, helping to raise funds to ensure children and young people from across Cornwall and Plymouth can access care and support offered by Little Harbour children’s hospice, which is just a few miles from Heligan in St Austell.

Sam Dickenson and her family, from St Austell, are among those who have been supported by the hospice. Her son Seth died in May 2021, aged seven, following a three-year battle with a brain tumour.

She said: “People see hospices as very medical but Little Harbour was so much more than that to us. They are an extended family, a security blanket, there was never any judgement, they let us do what we needed to do but were there for us all.”

This year’s event is being sponsored by Surf Bay Leisure.

The live event returned to Falmouth for the 12th year in 2021, following a two-year break during Covid restrictions.

A total of 150 people walked the five-mile route around the town, as well as others who took part virtually, raising a combined £20,000 in sponsorship.

Kiley added: “Numbers at our event in Falmouth have been dwindling over the past few years so we have taken the opportunity to revive the event by moving it to Heligan this year.

"The new location gives us the opportunity to incorporate new elements as well as make the event more accessible to people across the whole of Cornwall.

"We’ve had a fantastic response so far with more people signed up already than walked in Falmouth at our last event.”
