A theme park near Helston has joined forces with a foodbank to offer discounted entry prices to its rollercoaster thrillseekers.

Prices at Flambards will cost £10 as opposed to the usual £19.95 fee but this is only possible should people bring a food donation for the Helston and The Lizard Food Bank with them.

The special offer will take place exclusively on the weekend of Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.

Visitors will need to bring along a food donation to support the cause to entitle them to a cheaper ticket. Flambards recommends a minimum donation of non-perishable food to the approximate value of £3 per person.

Those who are unsure on what food is eligible for the deal can view it on the Flambards website at https://www.flambards.co.uk/foodbank-weekend.

Flambards general manager Richard Welby said: “Helston and The Lizard Foodbank does a tremendous amount of work to help those who need food most and we are delighted to do our bit to support it.

“We’re inviting people to enjoy a day out with us at a greatly discounted rate if they bring along some donations to the foodbank – it’s a win-win for everyone and will help a worthy cause.”

Helston and The Lizard Foodbank, which began in 2012, provided 1,165 three-day emergency food supplies last year. It is almost at that number already for 2022, which represents an increase in demand of more than 30 per cent.

Ian Fromow, project lead for Helston and The Lizard Food Bank said: "Demand throughout the year peaks at the start and end of the year and drops off during the summer, when more people are in seasonal work, but the foodbank has been much busier so far this year.

“Benefit delays, debt, poor mental health and low income are key reasons why people come to us and the cost of living crisis is only going to hit more people. Flambards has come up with a great idea to help us out and it is fantastic to see, because as a business it is an important part of our community,” said Ian.

The foodbank is located at Mustard Seed Café in Wendron Street on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (10am-2pm) and there is also an outlet at Mullion Church on Fridays (10am-2pm).

Donations can be made at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Spar in Helston and at the Co-op in Mullion. Call the food bank on 01326 564194 for more information or email info@helstonthelizard.foodbank.org.uk
