New wall art has begun going up in Helston today and it's causing quite a stir.

Work has begun today outside Lady Eve Vintage and is slowly being revealed as a nod to one of Helston's much-loved annual traditions.

There has been plenty of discussion about it in town, including what it will look like completed.

The vintage clothing and accessories shop has now revealed that, when finished, the side wall will feature a large mural of a woman wearing a wide-brimmed formal hat mirroring the ones the ladies wear during the Midday Dance on Flora Day.

Jan Williams and Bee Pellow, who own and run the shop at the top of Meneage Street, told the Packet that they noticed there was obscene graffiti on the wall and posted a tongue-in-cheek shout-out for whoever was responsible, asking if it could be a bit more like Banksy's designs.

They were then contacted by a wife of a mural artist who said her husband would be happy to design a picture for the wall.

Jordan Lauder, from Bude, is an artist who specialises in large spray paint designs, mostly portraits, in colour and black and white. He has designed the process from scratch with no input from Bee or Jan – but when he showed the design, they were thrilled with what he has done.

Jordan started the process on Monday morning and hopes to be finished within three to four days, although the weather forecast has predicted rain throughout the rest of the week which might prolong the process.

Jan and Bee opened the vintage fashion and accessories shop in August 2020 after originally hoping to open at the beginning of the year, but plans had to be put on hold due to the Covid pandemic.
