THE OWNER of an Greek-Italian restaurant in Truro has thanked the local community for their support after his restaurant was vandalised last night.

Truro restaurant Mediterraneo Truro has posted a video on its social media page showing the aftermath of a break-in that occurred last night.

The footage shows the kitchen area of the restaurant with bottles smashed and utensils seemingly burnt on a grill, as well as till roll and kitchen roll strewn about.

The video was accompanied by a caption that read: "We’re devastated by the sight of our restaurant been broken in last night.

"We are staying closed today.

"Apologies for the lunch reservations that have to be cancelled."

You can view the footage below.

Andreas Drosiadis, 50, who owns Mediterraneo Truro, told The Packet that he hopes nothing like what has happened to his restaurant happens to business-owners or residents in Truro.

Andreas said: "Truro is not as safe as some people think.

"One of the businesses next to us is a barber shop, and one of the barbers lives upstairs and he heard what was happening and called the police.

"They ended up destroying my place.

"Apparently one of them came back again this morning and started a scruff outside with the barber who was trying to stop him last night

"I managed to take a picture of him and gave it to police.

"So there was a bit of drama in Truro this morning and last night."

Andreas also told The Packet that the restaurant had received support and well-wishes from the local community and groups around Truro on its social media page.

He added: "Thank you, and I wish nothing like this ever happens to other businesses or residents."

The Packet has contacted Devon and Cornwall Police for comment.
