Work has begun to improve the coast path between Gyllyngvase Beach and Swanpool.
The path between the two beaches in Falmouth will be diverted to allow better wheelchair access the whole way.
Gaps in the fence where people have decided to take a short cut from the beach will also be repaired.
Posting on Facebook, Falmouth town councillor Jude Robinson said: "It may be a bit frustrating for a while as parts of the path are closed off to enable to work to go ahead."
She added: "This will be such a great improvement and we must thank Tony Parker - I think he started on this while he was a councillor between 2017 and 2021, when he stood down - and Lynn who is joint co-ordinator of the Boscawen Fields Group. And all the people who kept pressing for this, finding grants, findng contractors to do the work and did not give up even though it has taken years."
