Members of Porthleven Town Band blew the judges’ socks off when they travelled to the regional championships at the weekend and came home with no less than four trophies.

Porthleven Town Band were in Torquay for the annual South West Brass Band Championships, which returned after an enforced break of two years due to the pandemic.

The band entered the Second and Third Sections with the piece Fire in the Blood by Paul Lovett Cooper and not only won both sections but were awarded Best Horn Section in the Third Section (Suzanne Willey, Rob Hewson, Sharon Ciliberto and Holly Billing) while Tim Wingham was awarded Best Instrumentalist for the Second Section.

Porthleven Town Band musical director Tom Bassett said: “I’m extremely proud of the band.

"Their commitment and hard work has paid dividends and this tremendous result is well deserved.”

Members have also been congratulated the band trustees, with Lynne Lees saying: “This is fantastic and we’re all so proud of Tom and our players.

"They’ve all worked so hard and with such loyalty and dedication, they’re simply brilliant.”
