Coastguards in Falmouth attended a call-out this afternoon after a 'mysterious' unknown object washed ashore.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team attended Castle Beach in Falmouth earlier this afternoon after reports of a 'mysterious unknown object' having washed ashore.

An investigation took place into the origin of the object and team members think they might have an idea as to what the object is, but, as of yet, have not confirmed their theory.

After their initial investigation, Falmouth Coastguard's team members removed the object to a safe place for collection by the local authorities.

In an update posted on its social media page, a spokesperson for Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "This afternoon we were called to an ‘unknown’ object washed ashore at Castle Beach, Falmouth.

"Team members attended, investigated, and removed said object to a safe place for collection by the local authority.

"We ‘think’ we know what it was, but does anyone have any ideas?

"This call comes only a day after Falmouth team members were called to assist colleagues at Mevagissey Coastguard with transporting a large TEP (Time Expired Pyrotechnic) washed ashore at Pentewan.

"With the recent weather and predicted forecasts coming up, it goes without saying that if you spot anything you’re unsure of washed ashore at the coast, contact the Coastguard.

"We can attend and help identify as needs be.

"Remember some things can be explosive! Don’t touch it. Dial 999 and ask for Coastguard right away.

"The callers in both of these incidents did exactly the right thing by calling us. It’s never a waste of time."

The Packet has contacted Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team for their thoughts on the origins of this 'mysterious object.'
