Parking in Penryn is a problem.

Ask anyone that lives or works in the town and they'll tell you how much of a struggle it can be to navigate cars parked on pavements or find somewhere reasonable to park that doesn't have a double yellow line splashed across it.

Given this situation, it would seem a little silly to then take away even more parking spaces, no?

Well, would you believe, that's exactly what Cornwall Council has done!

The council has now decided it will be placing six one-bedroom units of accommodation, or 'Bunkabins' as you may know them, in the Commercial Road car park for single people needing homes.

What's wrong with that you might ask? Well, nothing in theory, but when you need to remove a significant number of a town's already precious parking spaces in order to do so, you're inevitably going to raise a few eyebrows.

As has been stated many times before, neither Penryn Town Council, nor their representative on Cornwall Council is against the idea of providing temporary accommodation, everyone is in agreement they are much needed.

The problem is the location.

Questions are also being asked as to whether  Cornwall Council are doing enough to ensure alternatives are available to those people whose work means they can’t use public transport.

We know there are people across Cornwall in desperate need of accommodation, but I would bet Penryn Town Council have a better idea of where that could potentially go than Cornwall Council's Cabinet member for housing?
