Staff from the four-star Greenbank hotel in Falmouth, got green fingered earlier this month, in an effort to preserve their neighbouring Greenbank public gardens.

Despite the intermittent rain, the dedicated team of volunteer gardeners spent the morning of Tuesday, November 8 pulling up weeds, painting over graffiti and generally tidying up the scenic waterfront gardens.

With tools and leadership from Cornwall Council, staff from all departments spent a couple of hours away from their day jobs, to maintain the gardens for the local community to use.

Managing Director of The Greenbank, Ben Young, said: “I’d like to say a huge thanks for everyone who volunteered their time and express my gratitude for participants that continue their efforts to help keep the Greenbank community gardens clean. I look forward to similar ventures in the future.”

The Greenbank public gardens are a popular beauty spot, used by locals and tourists throughout the year. In the summer, they become a favoured spot to watch events taking place on the harbour, such as the Tall Ships race, and the annual Dragon Boat race.

This latest effort forms a part of The Greenbank’s dedication to contribute to community and charitable causes.

The hotel is partnered with the Cornwall Community Foundation and raises funds for local, grassroots organisations and community projects, as well as being regularly involved in local beach cleans.

In August the hotel raised almost £3,000 for the annual Pink Wig event and breast cancer charities.
