Cllr Eva said he was "bowled over" with the detail of local art and history down to the carpet that has a pattern including Oysters and Tall Ships.

"The new roof garden is well thought out with booths with individual heaters to conserve energy.

"I am extremely happy that Weatherspoons has invested in Falmouth’s future and look forward to a few drinks over the holidays and maybe a bite to eat also."

A total of 45 new full- and part-time jobs have been created at the new-look pub, creating a total workforce of 90.

The pub, which first opened in Falmouth in March 2003, is managed by Aaron Niles, the roof terrace measures just over 1,900 square feet and is enhanced by plants and lighting.

A full refurbishment of the existing customer areas, at ground and first floor levels, as well as upgrades to the bars and customer toilets, has been undertaken.

Operational improvements have also been made, behind the scenes, with the introduction of drinks hoists, to the roof terrace, and an additional food hoist to improve the speed of service for customers.

The interior design of the new-look pub draws on the modernist character of the existing building, with a colour palate reflecting the special Cornish light that continues to inspire great artists.

The ‘journey’ through the building continues across each floor, where artwork and sculpture explore the colourful facets of Falmouth’s history, including the now famous steam packet ships transporting letters and parcels across the world.

The ground floor has a customer area around the new main bar, with a series of smaller areas wrapping the stairs.

A raised area, to the rear of the space, looks out onto the small courtyard.

Duty manager Emily Christophers told the Packet they really excited about the new roof garden

"There was nothing really like it in town, roof garden wise," she said. "So we’re really excited about that.

“There’s been a lot of history kept with the pub and a lot of Falmouth bought into it, which is really exciting.

“We have a lot of new artwork including by local students which brings the character and history into the pub which is what we were trying to do.

“We’re all really pleased with how it turned out. It looks lovey and we have had a really fantastic response from everybody who’s been coming in.”
