Two fishermen had to be rescued after swimming to shore in bad weather conditions and swell yesterday afternoon.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team, Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team and Falmouth Lifeboat were all tasked to respond to a report of an over due fishing vessel in Helford River, Mawnan Smith area.

Porthoustock and Mullion Teams searched the south side of the river with Falmouth units tasked to search the north side, while lifeboats searched the channel.

Posting in its Facebook page, Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "It was soon apparent that one casualty was ashore on the north side, at Bar Beach.

"He was well and had informed us that his friend had swam towards the south side. So search teams concentrated their efforts there.

"The final casualty was located safe and well on the south side. he was checked over by coastguard casualty carers and a doctor (who is part of the Lifeboat crew) Safety advice was also passed on.

"Thanks to the members of the public that helped out on this. A good result considering the weather conditions and swell!"
