A police officer from Truro has appeared in court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and coercive control.

Ian MacQueen, aged 51, appeared at Exeter Crown Court on January 6 where he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

MacQueen is charged with assaulting a woman thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm at Truro on December 13, 2021, to which he pleaded not guilty.

He was granted bail subject to the conditions that he was not to contact directly or indirectly the woman unless through solicitors. He is also excluded from entering a named address in Truro and the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske unless for his own medical attention or that of a family member.

He also pleaded not guilty to engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour at Truro.

The charge, when put to him at the magistrates' court previously, read that during this period he repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive against the same woman, namely repeated assaults resulting in physical injury, making comments to belittle, made out that he had cameras in her house, and isolated her from family and friends, knowing that behaviour would have a serious effect on her.

He was granted bail with the same conditions.

His case was adjourned to Exeter Crown Court on December 12 this year for trial by jury.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that MacQueen remains suspended from duty at this time.
