A TRURO man has avoided jail despite admitting to committing a further offence whilst under a suspended sentence.

James Lee Endean, aged 23, of Nancemere Road in Truro, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Friday on one count of breaching a restraining order on conviction, and one count of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence order.

Endean originally appeared in front of Truro Crown Court on April 8 and was handed down a suspended sentence and restraining order for previous offences, barring him from contacting a female victim or attending any home address or workplace of the female victim.

Then, on Sunday, October 2, police were called to the victim's address in Camborne where Endean was found to be present and had suffered self-inflicted injuries from a knife he was in possession of.

He was arrested and taken to a hospital before being taken to Camborne Custody Centre.

The victim did not disclose that Endean had committed any offences while he was there and the court heard how Endean was in possession of a knife in order to use it on himself, as opposed to anyone else.

The court also heard how, since his arrest, Endean had been making good progress and was going 'above and beyond' his requirements as well as referring himself to a mental health service.

During his sentencing, Judge Simon Carr told Endean: "The court took a chance on you and gave you a suspended sentence.

"The other elements have all gone extremely well, you deserve credit for that."

Endean was made the subject of another suspended sentence for six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

He must also undertake 12 mental health sessions across a six-month period and pay a £50 fine.
