More details have been given over the impending takeover of services at one of Helston's GP surgeries - including dates of what happens next.

On Tuesday, the Packet revealed that Helston Medical Centre is “looking to take on” a contract to continue care for the town’s Meneage Street Surgery patients following the announcement in November that current partners Dr Vyvyan and Dr Shaw would be terminating their contracts as partners on March 31.

Now the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (ICB) has confirmed to the Packet that, subject to the final details being agreed, Helston Medical Centre would be taking over the running of the Meneage Street Surgery from April 1.

Helston Medical Centre had posted an update on its Facebook page to explain they have been working with Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (ICB) to consider options for the best practical care for Helston patients.

The Packet has now received more details about the proposals, from the ICB, outlining what is going to happen.

Kirsty Lewis, deputy director of ICB, said: “In November we received notification from the partners at Meneage Street Surgery that they would no longer be providing GP services and we have been working closely with other GP providers in the area to explore what the future of the surgery might look like.

“We are pleased to confirm that from April 1, 2023 general medical services at Meneage Street Surgery will be provided by Helston Medical Centre, subject to the final details of the contract being agreed.

“It has been agreed that for now, the practice can continue to use the building at Meneage Street so there will be a minimal impact for patients.

“Most patients will automatically transfer over to the new practice, with no action required and we have written by letter to all patients registered with Meneage Street Surgery to provide an update for them.”

Further information:

• Those patients who automatically transfer over to the new practice do not need to take any action as a result of the letter that has been sent to them.

• There are some patients who do not live within the practice boundary for Helston Medical Centre and will need to re-register with a local practice. The ICB will shortly be in touch with those patients to inform them what they need to do next.

• Meneage Street Surgery remains open and will be running as usual until March 31, and patients should continue to access care in the normal way.
