The owner of one of Falmouth's most recommended tea rooms is selling the business after 11 "extraordinarily wonderful" years.

Dolly Makin set up Dolly's Tea Room, Wine House and Gin Palace at the top of a Georgian House in Church Street in 2011.

Since then whenever articles were written in the travel pages of the national press you could be sure Dolly's would be recommended as a place to visit.

But today she announced on Facebook  that she had sold the business after more that 11 "extraordinarily wonderful" years.

"It’s been a year of decisions and the biggest I have made has been to sell Dolly’s… I will be leaving Church Street today and the new owners – Barney and Abi – will be taking over.

"The last 11 ½ years have been extraordinarily wonderful and I loved creating my beautiful tea room. It has not been a bed of roses but the good times outweigh the difficult ones. I have met the most delightful people, have laughed, cried and learnt so much - about myself, hospitality and life.

"But I need a change of pace and would like to try doing something else – after a couple of months off for my feet to recover.

"Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Dolly’s – the best staff ever – very special customers and friends - it really has been such a great experience and pleasure and I will miss it hugely…thank you so much, Dolly xxx"

Dolly says she moved to Falmouth over 15 years ago after working on magazines and newspapers

She said Dolly’s came about through chatting with friends about what they would really like in a bar/restaurant.

About seven years ago she branched into gin – and to date there are more than 400 different gins to choose from.
