Falmouth and Helston Police have issued a warning about rogue traders after an elderly couple were conned out of cash.

This morning (Sunday, February 19) PCSO Julia Berry and PC Mark Mitchell attended the home address of an elderly couple who were victims of doorstep crime.

Police say the couple said they were keen for other people to be warned to prevent then  falling foul of a similar scam.

The couple were cold called by rogue traders who offered to cut their hedge and to remove moss from the roof of their bungalow.

The price quoted by the rogue traders was initially low. However, once work commenced and the rogue traders were on the roof the elderly couple were advised that a tile had become dislodged.

"Of course the price of the work increase. Money was handed over but the work was not completed," said the police in a post.

"Crime prevention advice and safeguarding has been put in place for this couple.

"Fortunately, we live in a low crime area and reports such as this are minimal."
