The match between Camelford and Wendron was played in a heavy mist, with the ball held up on the sticky pitch surface, writes Joss Bray.

Camelford were immediately on the attack but Wendron responded and, after 10 minutes, thought they had taken the lead.

Reece Carroll made a run down the left and passed to Jack Stocker, who thought he had scored.

The referee awarded the goal but the linesman intervened and the goal was disallowed for a foul on the keeper.

Eli Evans, who was Camelford's best player, evaded two defenders and blasted a full blooded shot, just wide of the post.

The home team were not to be denied and after Mark Gustersons shot had been blocked central defender Leighton Carhart despatched the rebound, to make the score after 30 minutes 1-1.

Then Charlie Young passed to Josh Wood, who shot just past the post.

Wendron were upping their game & forced a corner, which was taken by Jack Stocker and headed on by Young for Scott Palmer to head in at the far post, for a 2-1 lead.

Though home goal-keeper Josh Colwill was making some great saves, he was beaten again when Jacob Cleverly cut in from the left and his shot went right through the goalmouth and found the net via a defender's leg.

Wendron did not relax the pressure and scored again when Josh Wood's shot was fumbled by Colwill and Charlie Young followed up, to make the half-time score 4-1, with three goals coming in a 15-minute spell.

For the second half Wendron introduced Joe Souch, Sam Young and Cameron Quirke. I remember remarking to a Camelford supporter that the next goal was important and if Camelford scored next it could still be a close game.

My prediction was to prove correct when Evans run was blocked and Andy Boxall's shot was deflected for a own goal and a 4-2 scoreline. Game on and Leighton Carhart appeared in the box again to make the score 4-3 in favour of the away team.

Wendron knew they had to respond and began to gain a greater share of the play.

The home keeper made a great save from Charlie Young and Joe Chapman shot just over the bar, after a good run.

There was still a danger of a breakaway goal and as often happens the chance came in the last minute.

A cross to the far post was met by home captain Charlie Hambly, whose header went just past the post, to the relief of the Wendron supporters.

It will not get any easier next Saturday when Wendron continue their drive for more points as they play their next game at Penlee Park, home of Penzance, kicking off at 3pm.
