More details have been revealed ahead of the national Armed Forces Day taking place in Falmouth later this summer.

Cornwall has this year been chosen to celebrate the nationally important event, which celebrates and thanks the military community for everything that they do.

As revealed last November, Falmouth will be the centrepiece for the country’s celebrations on June 24 and June 25, with more Armed Forces Day events taking place around the world.

Now more details have been revealed about what people can expect to see.

This will include ‘Top Gun’ style displays from the Red Arrows, as well as the precision and aerobatic capabilities of helicopter stunt teams.

There will also be parades, tanks and military vehicles on show and the opportunity to tour naval ships.

A “spectacular” fireworks display has also been promised.

Falmouth Packet: Armed Forces Day in Cornwall will be 'the biggest event seen in Falmouth'

Cllr Louis Gardner, portfolio holder for the economy said: “As a veteran myself I’m incredibly proud that Armed Forces Day, is taking place in Cornwall.

“Cornwall has always had a strong connection to the Armed Forces and it’s an honour to host this national event, and thank the military on behalf of the country.”

Cornwall Council is looking for businesses to become part of the event, through sponsorship and by becoming an official partner.

The council said that the event attracts thousands of people from around the country, and a range of high profile regional and international brands are typically associated with it.

“If you become an official partner and use your sponsorship in the right way to enhance the experience of people attending the event, then Armed Forces Day sponsorship can have significant business benefits.

“There are a number of opportunities for businesses to contribute to the event and remain part of its legacy,” added Cllr Gardner. Leader of Cornwall Council, Cllr Linda Taylor, said: “Armed Forces Day is a chance to come together to celebrate and salute the men and women who work tirelessly to keep us safe.

“We also want to pay tribute to the families and friends who support them. The military do some really difficult jobs, and this is our opportunity to say a very big thank you to them and the Armed Forces Community at large.”
