Posting on his Instagram page he thanked everyone for their help and said he was expecting to go in for an operation in a couple of days.

“What an absolute whirlwind of a few days literally blown away with how kind everyone is,” he said.

He added: “I was in a very, very dark place with worry anxiety and depression… I guess everything happens for a reason just really came at a bad time I’m so grateful for every penny that has been donated.

“Being self-employed if I’m not there I’m not earning. Two years ago I broke my foot and I was that skint that I had to go to work high on codeine and morphine with my boot on up on roofs I didn’t have an option my body was still broken for that two years on.”

He thanked everyone who was involved in the sea rescue and for comforting him on land.

“I know I’ve said this all before but I’m blown away!,” he said.

As well as the GoFundMe page Rochfort Surfboards has donated a set of £100 fins that will go into a raffle draw in a week or so. To enter people simply donate to the GoFundMe page to donate as little or as much as they can to be entered.
