The first look at a multi-million pound redevelopment of Cornwall College Camborne has been revealed.

Work has already begun to revitalise the campus in Trevenson Road, Pool, which has been serving the local community and beyond for close to a century.

Upgrading classrooms, laboratories and workshops, improving technology, infrastructure, and enhancing accessibility and safety are all part of the work, which is being funded through the Department for Education's Further Education Capital Transformation Fund.

College principal and chief executive John Evans said: “Our primary value is ‘Learner First’, so we're thrilled to be embarking on this exciting project to revamp Cornwall College Camborne.

"This major development will enable us to continue to provide our students with the highest quality of education and training in cutting-edge facilities, which is why we are known as the career college.

“We're committed to delivering the best possible learning experience for our students and to helping our local community thrive.”

Head of Cornwall College Camborne, Luke Bazeley, said the development is an important step as part of The Cornwall College Group’s commitment to deliver high-quality education and training to the people of Cornwall and Devon.

"We're excited to see the project come to fruition and to provide our students with the best possible learning environment,” he said.

“The fly-through video shared by Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects looks fantastic and I look forward to seeing the plans come to life.”

With work continuing over the next few years, The Cornwall College Group said it wants to ensure the college remains at the forefront of education and training in Cornwall.

Last month more details were revealed about the college’s plans in documents submitted to Cornwall Council, which set out the proposal to demolish a number of buildings on its Pool campus in two phases.

The campus has been given £12 million under the Department for Education’s funding to remove poor quality and redundant buildings.

This is in addition to around £40 million given for a full rebuild of Cornwall College’s St Austell campus.

The plans state how there will be two phases of work planned in Pool. The first stage of demolition is scheduled to involve the Avalon Corridor, Merlin, Scott and Avalon buildings, the lecture theatre and Harris building.

The second phase will see the Tamar Annexe Sharm and College Print buildings demolished.

Cornwall College submitted a ‘prior approval’ application to Cornwall Council. The development falls under ‘permitted development rights’, meaning it is allowed under national legislation without the need for a planning application.

However, a condition is that an application of ‘prior approval’ is submitted, to allow the planning authority the chance to consider the proposals and their potential impact on areas such as transport and highways.

Updates on the development will be given on the college’s social media pages, while open events and taster days will be posted at Cornwall.ac.uk/events
