As supermarkets struggle to put fresh produce on the shelves, a local market is planning a bumper spring event for everyone to enjoy over the Easter Weekend.

Truro Farmers Market and Cornwall Shop Small are teaming up for their annual springtime extravaganza, The BIG Easter Market, bringing a bountiful selection of seasonal food, drink, arts, crafts and vintage wares to Lemon Quay.

The two-day event will take place on Friday, April 7 and Saturday April 8, running from 9am to 4pm on both days.

The BIG Easter Market will be a celebration of spring, with hot cross buns, artisan chocolate and colourful veg, plus handmade crafts, Easter gifts and lifestyle inspiration for a new season.

Visitors can expect more than 60 stalls, live music, delicious street food and an Easter trail with some wonderful prizes.

Sarah Curley of Cornwall Shop Small, who runs the Cornwall Shop Small Market, said: “The BIG Easter Market will be packed full of spring vibes. Our fabulous Cornish creatives will be showcasing contemporary craft, art and design, presenting beautiful homewares, and offering up some incredible vintage finds.

"It’s the perfect place to find unique and beautiful things for your home, lifestyle, and wardrobe.”

For example, shoppers can browse artworks inspired by the Cornish landscape, colourful prints, locally made ceramics, eye-catching jewellery, and children’s clothes and toys, as well as spring fashion and accessories with sustainability at heart.

Meanwhile, the Farmers Market will be bursting at the seams with colourful, seasonal produce.

Rob Alderson of The Goonown Growers, an organic growing cooperative based in St Agnes, said: “Despite the cold weather, we’ve got some great produce to pick for this market.

"Amongst other things, mixed salad leaves (no salad shortage here!), purple sprouting broccoli and sprouting Russian kale will all be available in abundance.”

Fresh fish and shellfish from Helford-based boat Lady Hamilton will be for sale; this sushi-grade seafood is caught using sustainable methods and shoppers are advised to come early to get their pick of the catch.

Treway Farm will be in attendance with their range of grassfed beef, while at the St Piran’s Pork stall marketgoers will find all the sausages, bacon and hog’s pudding required for those bumper Easter Weekend breakfasts.

Meanwhile, artisan producers of everything from curry sauces to craft gin, saffron buns to sauerkraut, will be ready to provide an enjoyable local shopping experience as visitors are invited to grab a ‘Love TFM’ jute bag and fill it with tasty treats.

Anyone looking to indulge their sweet tooth this Easter won’t be disappointed, with luxury ice cream, handmade chocolate, and artisan tiramisu - plus freshly cooked churros and waffles amongst the street food offering.

Stewart Girvan of The Farmers Market said: “The BIG Easter market is always a highlight in our calendar. There’s a real sense of rejuvenation, a riot of colour, and a banquet of fresh flavours. It’s a sensory feast of spring in Cornwall and we can’t wait!”
