A FORMER professional rugby player who followed his love of food to take over Philleigh Way Cookery School, has announced his latest venture - opening a new café.

Nestled within the cliffs above Riviere Towans Beach in Hayle, former Cornish Pirates player, Rupert Cooper, will be opening Cove Café on Wednesday, May 3.

Cove Café adds to Rupert’s portfolio as he continues to run Philleigh Way Cookery School.

Under Rupert’s watchful eye, Cove Café will be serving dishes such as Cornish Fish Soup, Mushroom Fricassee and Mussels with ‘Nduja & Mascarpone.

Continuing his ethos of working with local suppliers, such as Trevaskis Farm, Primrose Herd, Dodo Bakery & Homage to Bovine, and using seasonal ingredients, the menu will change regularly with something for everyone.

Rupert said: "Taking on Cove Café is actually something I’ve wanted to do for over five years – the timing was never right, so now everything has aligned, I’m really excited to get started.

"My vision is for Cove to become a near-enough 12-month beach café with a simple offering, welcoming both locals and visitors to enjoy wholesome food, incredible scenery, and great hospitality.

"Aside from the daytime offering, we’re looking to continue and expand the legacy of evening events, which promises to be exciting."

Daytime visitors can expect a chilled atmosphere where no booking is needed as the café has an abundance of outdoor seating and 35 covers inside.

Cove Café will also host special events such as foodie get-togethers and music nights. The first of these will be a lunch on May 7 to celebrate the King’s Coronation – expect four freshly cooked courses, good enough for royals!

Cove Café opens on Wednesday, May 3 and will then be open Wednesday to Sunday from 9:30am to 3:30pm with no booking needed.
