RECENTLY, this Skipper read the heartbreaking story of Julie, a former businesswoman who was moved into one of the supposedly temporary housing pods installed by Cornwall Council.

The nightmarish situation described by Julie was like something out of the darker corners of a Dickens novel and something that no person should have to endure in 21st Century Britain.

Not only do Julie and many like her have to endure the draconian security measures in place, but are also barred from working or having visits from friends or family.

The necessity for temporary accommodation is obvious, the housing crisis in Cornwall is self-evident, but why would anyone want to impose such cruel measures on people that find themselves in such a situation through no fault of their own?

When Cornwall Council paraded the scheme about like it had just solved world hunger, did they know that the residents of such accommodation would essentially become non-criminal prisoners?

Where is Councillor Ollie Monk when stories such as Julie's come to light? Has anyone heard a word from him about this or what is being done to address the issues raised by residents such as Julie?

He's very quick to jump in front of a camera when there are new housing schemes in Penryn or Pool, but what's he doing about ensuring people aren't running around those temporary housing sites covered in faeces for four days?
