A CAR has collidied with a slow-moving train yesterday, trapping the driver inside.
Emergency services were called out to the scene at around 4pm yesterday (May 24) for the incident which took place at Coombe Halt Crossing, Liskeard.
The collision had pushed the vehicle up against a lamppost, crushing one of the car's doors and trapping the driver inside.
The driver of the car was reportedly cut free and given first aid at the scene, however, it is unclear how severe their injuries were.
Police say both the driver of the car and the train were breathlysed but both blew zero.
The incident caused disruption to services between Liskeard and Looe which lasted until the end of the day.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Both appliances from Liskeard and the Rescue Tender from Bodmin mobilised to a report of a car that had been hit by a train at the crossing.
"On arrival the crew confirmed that one car had collided with a slow moving light two carriage train on the branch line.
"The vehicle, which had been pushed up against a lamppost had mechanically entrapped the male driver inside by crushing the door.
"Firefighters successfully released the male, giving first aid at the scene. Rail staff, Ambulance and Police were also on scene."
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were informed at around 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 24 May) of a collision between a car and a slow moving train between Liskeard and Looe.
"Units attended and breathalysed the driver of the car and train driver, both blew zero - there is no further action for Devon and Cornwall Police in connection to this matter."
