Redruth’s legendary Murdoch Day festival returns to the town on Saturday, June 17 with creativity and innovation as the theme.

William Murdoch is famous for his ground-breaking inventions and the festival will mark his achievements as well as celebrating the creativity and innovation that is booming in the town today.

A key part of the day will be the themed parade which will feature bands including the Redruth Town Band and the Redruth Festival Band, children from local schools and community groups, cadets from RAF, performers from Lowender and a special appearance by Mr & Mrs Murdoch in the form of puppets by Shallal.

Elsewhere there will be market stalls, the traditional funfair in Flowerpot Chapel car park, vintage and steam vehicles and Freddie Zapp’s live music stage in Green Lane.

Alice Lamming, Redruth Town Council Community Projects Manager said: “we’re really looking forward to a fantastic Murdoch Day this year and it will be even bigger and better than last year. The theme of creativity and innovation has really caught peoples’ imaginations so we can’t wait to see the parade creations come to life on the day.”

William Murdoch’s former home at Murdoch House in Cross Street will be open for visitors to explore the new interactive exhibit and The Murdoch Flyer will be positioned outside. There’ll also be circus skills workshops outside the Regal Theatre at the bottom of town.

Cllr Stephen Barnes, Redruth Town Mayor said: “it was great to see Murdoch Day return last year and now I can’t wait for this year. There really is something for everyone as we celebrate the past, present and future of Redruth.”

The day starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm and the parade will start from behind the cinema at about 11am. More information can be found on the website www.discoverredruth.co.uk, on social media @discoverredruth or in the Festival Guide which will be published online and printed copies available to pick up from Redruth Library and other venues around town. There will also be an Info Stand at the top of town near the Clock Tower on the day.
