A MAN who admitted to assaulting a female victim and breached a non-molestation order has been sentenced by a court in Cornwall.

Jamie Lee Coon, aged 30, of Chyandor Close in St. Blazey, Par, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 30 on one count of assault by beating and one count of breaching a non-molestation order.

The offences took place between February 24 and March 9, 2023, in St Austell where Coon assaulted the female victim by beating her. The following month, Coon, without reasonable excuse, made one phone call and contacted the victim, which he was prohibited from doing by a non-molestation order made by Truro Family Court.

Coon pleaded guilty to the breach and, after having originally pleaded not guilty to the assault, later changed his plea to guilty.

During his sentencing, Coon was committed to prison for 26 weeks, suspended for 24 months, and made the subject of a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim for two years.

The court noted how the offences were so serious due to the defendant's "blatant and persistent" breaches of the court order.

Coon must also take part in a rehabilitation activity and the Building Better Relationships programme within the 24-month supervision period, as well as carry out unpaid work for 150 hours within the next twelve months.

He was made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £154 and pay costs of £485 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
