HELSTON Athletic has continued to strengthen the club after one of its most successful seasons ever by announcing a number of new signings and contract extensions.

The Blues recently confirmed that goal-scoring defender David Barker had committed himself to the team for the upcoming 23/24 campaign alongside new signing Callum Martindale who spent five years at Saltash before joining Helston.

In a statement posted on to Twitter, Martindale thanked his former club by saying: "Thank you Saltash United for the past five years, it’s been an incredible journey and I’ve loved every minute of it.

"Unfortunately all good things come to an end and I wish you all the best for the future."

Also joining the club will be ToolStation WesternLeague Premier Division top scorer for the 22/23 season Curtis Damerell, who joins from Torpoint AFC.

Helston has said they'll be looking to Damerell to help give the team "that extra firepower to help our ambitions to compete in all competitions."

Damerell also put out a statement on Twitter wishing Torpoint AFC all the best for the future. He said: "After so many years at Torpoint AFC, I feel it's time to leave the club for a new challenge.

"I've had some unbelievable times and met so many unbelievable people at Torpoint and thank them for all their support.

"I wish Dean, Ficey, and the lads all the best for the future."

Also joining The Blues will be left-footed defender, Callum O'Brien, from Saltash United who also wished his former club well via a Tweet which read: "Thanks for the memories Saltash United, all the best for next season."

Speaking on the new signings, Helston manager Matt Cusack said: "Yesterday was a fantastic day for Helston Athletic Football Club.

"I’ve previously worked with Dave Barker, Callum O'Brien, and Callum Martindale. I know the tremendous value each will add.

"Curtis Damerell was the Toolstation Western League Premier Division top scorer last season and will bring additional quality to an already impressive front line.

"The four signal ‘The Blues’ intent for the new campaign."#
