A MAN who assaulted a woman and was caught driving with an expired licence and without insurance has been sentenced by a court in Cornwall.

Louis David Stevens, aged 43, of Parc Enys on Cury Cross Lane in Cury, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 13 on one count of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence; one count of using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance; and one count of assault by beating.

The offences took place on September 10, 2022, on Oakfield Road in Falmouth where Stevens assaulted a female victim by beating her.

On the same road, Stevens was caught driving a Ford Mondeo with an expired substantive licence and without third-party insurance.

He pleaded guilty to all three of the offences.

During his sentencing, Stevens was made the subject of a community order under which he must participate in the Building Better Relationships programme for a period of 27 days. He was also made the subject of a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim and banning him from entering a road in Falmouth.

Steven's driving record was also endorsed with six points and he was fined £1,250 and made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £114 as well as pay costs of £620 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court also noted how Stevens' guilty pleas had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
