People in Helston and surrounding areas were treated to a rare sight today as two F-35B Lightning II stealth fighter jets flew overhead.

The jets, which are based at RAF Marham in Norfolk, were in Cornwall to take part in a flypast over Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

After the flypast, the jets returned to RNAS Culdrose in Helston, where they were spotted flying low over the town and surrounding villages.

The jets were welcomed by members of the public, with many posting on social media their photos and videos of the aircraft.

Carl Plaister posted his amazing pictures of the aircraft on the Packet Camera Club Facebook page.

The F-35B is a fifth-generation fighter jet that is capable of conducting a wide range of missions, including air-to-air combat, air-to-ground strikes, and electronic warfare.

The jets are also equipped with stealth technology, which makes them difficult to detect by enemy radar.
