COASTGUARDS in Cornwall were called in to assist police and mountain rescue in the search for a man who has gone missing in Cornwall. 

Team search managers from the West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team were contacted by Devon and Cornwall Police to assist them in searching areas of St Ives as part of an ongoing missing person enquiry.

The team, along with St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team and neighbouring Coastguard resources, searched areas in and around the town centre alongside search dogs and a police helicopter.

After a five-hour search effort, the teams were stood down and police investigations are still ongoing.

In a statement published on its social media page, West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team said: "Yesterday team search managers were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police with regards to an ongoing missing person enquiry.

"As part of the investigation, the team were requested to search areas around St Ives town centre alongside colleagues from St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team and neighbouring Coastguard resources.

"Also in attendance was Search Dog Merryn from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England, St Ives Lifeboat and the Police helicopter.

"Due to the summer solstice, there were lots of people in the town and around the headlands. After five hours searching both urban and rural areas, the team were stood down at 11pm as police enquiries continue."
