An independent Cornish specialist coffee roaster has joined the likes of Lucy & Yak and Passenger to be named one of the fastest-growing private companies in the UK.

Origin Coffee has been named one of the top-growing companies in this year’s FEBE Growth 100 list for its significant sales, revenue, and profit against a backdrop of unprecedented economic challenges, joining the likes of clothing brands Lucy & Yak, Passenger and Me + Em and jewellery brand Astrid & Miyu.

The Growth 100 annual list celebrates those who are thriving as some of the fastest-growing brands in the country. To make the FEBE (For Entrepreneurs by Entrepreneurs) list, businesses must have sales between £3 million and £200million, have traded for the last three years, and have turned an operating profit in the last financial year. The business must also be privately owned with an active founder or founders.

Origin was launched in 2004 by owner and founder, Tom Sobey. The B Corp accredited business is headquartered in Porthleven, Cornwall with six coffee shops, a world-class coffee programme, and hundreds of wholesale customers across the UK and Europe.

Founder and owner of Origin, Tom Sobey has spoken about the achievement. He said: “From a sales perspective, the last 12 months at Origin have been incredible.

“No small feat, considering the challenges we’re all facing on a global scale.

“The knock-on effects of a global pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and numerous other issues affecting producer partners in their own countries have made the last year one of the toughest to navigate since starting Origin.

“I am incredibly proud of how every single person at Origin has adapted to the challenges we face, and I look forward to continuing to grow.”
