This is the moment a seal trying to celebrate his birthday almost lost his cake when a cheeky seagull decided to crash the party.

The team at Gweek Seal Sanctuary were celebrating the tenth birthday of common seal 'Bo' with a special fish cake.

However, before Bo got to his birthday surprise a seagull saw his chance and swooped down to get the fish. It is not clear how successful he was in his fish-cake-stealing attempt.

Bo was born at the sanctuary on June 29, 2013. He lives with his younger brother Buddy and rescued common seal, Jarvis.

The team members at the sanctuary paid tribute to Bo on his birthday on their Facebook page. It reads: “We would like to wish a very happy 10th birthday to our lovely Bo.

“He is a very confident seal and always the first up at feeding time.

“He can be impatient and may even start tapping his flipper on the floor if the fish isn’t being delivered quickly enough.”

To help provide support for Bo and many other animals at the sanctuary, an option to adopt an animal is available to buy for £40.

The animal adoptions include:

  • Two free entries to the sanctuary
  • 20% voucher for the café or gift shop
  • Certificate of Adoption
  • A small Cornish Seal Sanctuary souvenir
