Owners of a Cornish beach shack that has built a large following thanks to its beachside dining and cocktails have revealed they will open another pop-up beach restaurant in Gwithian.

LULA, which opened in Hayle in 2020 became popular thanks to its beachside dining with dishes and cocktails inspired by America’s deep south before it closed suddenly earlier this year - said to be for "reasons entirely beyond our control."

The new restaurant will be based at The Rockpool bar, towards the north end of Gwithian Beach. It will be open from the evening of this Friday, July 7.

Sam Sheffield, who created and continues to run LULA, said: “We are over the moon to be bringing LULA vibe to a new spot this summer – and what a spot! The Rockpool is right in the dunes with views across the beach.

“LULA holds a special place in the hearts of so many people, and it’s been so sad to see the doors closed on our original shack for reasons entirely beyond our control.

“We’re ecstatic to be able to host our brilliant shackers once again.”

Sam is also the owner of another restaurant in Cornwall. She opened Amelie in Porthleven in 2009, which remains popular with locals and tourists.

In 2021 the restaurant reopened its doors after experiencing 18 months of disruption following a kitchen fire in 2019.

Customers’ favourite LULA dishes are said to include the LULA Chowder, Cornish lobster, prawn, and crayfish rolls, and the 6oz Shack Burger.

“The last couple of months have been some of the toughest I’ve ever faced. But we’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from locals and previous guests, many of whom have shared such heart-warming messages since we were forced to close," added Sam.

“LULA is one big family, and we now have a new home! My partner Simon and I are so pleased to welcome my lovely team back once again, and we’re all excited to put our stamp on a new venue."

James Morgan, who is responsible for The Rockpool commented: “We believe in looking out for your neighbours, and knowing LULA needed to help we were keen to step in and offer them a place to call home.

“It’s a tricky time for the hospitality industry and we need to look after one another.

“We’re all very excited to welcome LULA to the Rockpool – we love their food and good vibes and think the shackers will love us too!

“We can’t wait to see you all down at The Rockpool.”

The Rockpool is based at 1 Godrevy Towns, Gwithian, Hayle and has its own extensive car park and direct access to the beach.

LULA will be open daily from 9am until 11.30am for breakfast, and again at 12pm until 8pm for lunch and dinner.
