A KEEN darts player from St Austell hit the bullseye when he revealed a £300,000 top prize win on a National Lottery Scratchcard.

Full-time carer, Clive Bray, aged 58, and born and bred in the Duchy, is very clear on his plans for the win. Top of the list is to buy his first-ever home and secondly, take a trip to London for the PDC World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace.

Clive said, "Knowing that I can finally own a small slice of Cornwall means the world to me, it’s something I could only have dreamt of previously having given up my printing career to care for my beloved partner of 38 years who is sadly unwell. To know my future is financially secure is a huge weight off my mind.

"And, as a keen darts player - I have played at county level and in numerous Exhibition matches against some of the world’s best, and coming from a long line of keen darts players - being able to attend the World Championships is another dream come true.

"I guess you could say I am feeling pretty chuffed!"

Clive’s winning adventure all started on a quick trip to the local supermarket for a few bits. Whilst there he decided to cash in a previous £15 win and treated himself to a few of the Sapphire Multiplier Scratchcards from The National Lottery.

Clive said: "I played the Scratchcards while I was in the shop, idly chatting to the retailer. The first one was a £6 win, then another £6 win and just as I was thinking, ‘hat tricks don’t happen’, I revealed the £300K win.

"I showed it to the retailer, saying ‘this can’t be right’ whereupon she whooped and cheered on my behalf which pretty much confirmed it was!”

Demonstrating a cautious disposition, Craig put the winning Scratchcard safely in his wallet and headed for home, but decided to take a detour to his local Spar to double-check on their terminal it was a winner.

Craig said: "It was a laughable moment when I went into the Spar and said ‘I don’t think you can cash this for me’. Deep down I knew it was a winning Scratchcard but I needed to be doubly sure before going home to share my amazing news."

Clive has always hoped he would win and, having previously won £5,250 on Lotto which enabled him to attend a friend's wedding in Las Vegas, he always knew it was possible.

He joked: “When I called The National Lottery to make the claim I was very calm, and to be honest that’s how I have been throughout, except perhaps for the night I shouted a round of drinks for my mates to celebrate then they all insisted on buying me one back, that wasn’t quite as calm!

"This is my second big win, who knows, maybe I can make a hat trick of big wins and there’s one more to come! But if not, I am more than happy with my lot."

Clive bought his winning Sapphire Multiplier Scratchcard at Tesco on Holmbush Road, in St Austell.

The Sapphire Multiplier Scratchcard from The National Lottery offers a 1 in 3.64 overall chance of winning a prize. The Scratchcard costs £3 and prizes range from £3 up to the top prize of £300,000.
