One of Helston’s much-loved traditions will return this year after it was cancelled in 2022 as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Organisers of the Helston Carnival have revealed the date of this year’s event will be Saturday, September 9.

Following the death of the Queen on September 8 last year, the carnival committee decided to cancel last year's event out of respect for the Royal Family.

However, this year the traditional carnival is back to be a part of Helston's Harvest Fair celebrations.

The much-loved tradition has seen hundreds of people line the streets over the years to watch the procession go by.

Categories for large, medium, and small floats and decorated bikes/buggy or wheelchairs, vintage vehicles and walkers will be judged at Helston Tesco before the procession leaves.

It is free to enter, and leaflets can be handed out promoting organisations and clubs.

The committee also allows horses and ponies to participate in the carnival. However, there are rules that owners of the animal must follow.

A spokesperson said: "Those responsible for the animal must clean up any mess, have the appropriate insurance and consider all the health and safety aspects of having a live animal in a busy and noisy environment."
