Users of the app ‘HiiKER’ have named Nare Head as its top hiking trail in Cornwall.

A 9.5km looped trail, starting and ending near Veryan, it follows the coastal path around Nare Head on the Roseland Peninsula.

The average time to complete it is three hours and 18 minutes, with the trail graded as ‘medium’ in difficulty.

HiiKER is a hiking app that aims to prioritise the safety of hikers, allowing them free offline maps, helping users save phone battery and have easy access to a map at any time.

In England and Wales in 2021, almost 120,000 hours were spent rescuing hikers that were insufficiently prepared for their hike.

Paul Finlay, CEO and founder of HiiKER said: "Hiker safety is our absolute priority. Offering hikers Free Offline maps on HiiKER, means that everyone can feel confident that they're on track, regardless of mobile service.”

HiiKER also provides collected data from mountain rescue teams and trail management organisations, ensuring accuracy for every hiker on the search for the right trail for them, which is essential for their safety.

Julian Gray, director of the South West Coast Path Association, said:“HiiKER is our first coast path friendly app – giving back to protect this world class trail.

"Having free access to maps offline is a great step forward as it’s often when you’re in remote areas with poor signal that you need access to information quickly.”

In the future, HiiKER aims to expand their trail and map coverage globally, to increase its already large community.
