Police have confirmed that a man in his sixties has died following a fire at flats in Truro last week.

Fire crews from three Cornish towns battled the blaze in Quay Street last Thursday evening.

Crews were called just after 4.40pm to the Enys Quay flats, with police also brought in a short time later at around 5pm, to introduce road closures and cordons.

Now Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that has sadly one man has now died following the incident.

A force spokesperson said: “It is now confirmed that there has been a death linked to this incident.

“Whilst formal identification has yet to have taken place, the deceased is believed to be a local man in his sixties and his next of kin have been informed.

“No one is being sought in connection with this incident and police remain at the scene whilst enquiries continue into the cause of the fire.”

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on Thursday that crews were at a flat fire on Quay Street.

Later that evening, at 7.15pm, an update from the fire service said that five appliances from Truro, Tolvaddon and St Austell were in attendance at that time, along with an Operational Support Unit, a group manager and a station manager.

The fire was still being brought under control at that time.
