A PARK and ride service in Falmouth has been criticised for no longer offering a bus service, and instead re-directing people to a bus stop outside McDonald's.

After signs were put up advising that no buses would be running from the park and ride, advice has reportedly been issued that buses going into Falmouth town should be caught on the bus stop outside McDonald's on Draceana Avenue.

However, concerns have been raised that the number of people now gathering at the bus stop for the service, particularly over the past few weeks where it's rained, is creating chaos.

A man who works nearby but wanted to stay anonymous said: "It hasn’t been open all year so far. They’ve now put a large sign saying there are no buses operating from this car park. It now says it’s a free car park and if you want to get to town go to McDonald’s and there’s a bus stop. Parking is free.

"It’s absolute chaos. We’ve got rain and about 30 to 35 people all trying to huddle under the little McDonald’s bus shelter, whereas when the park and float, and park and ride was operating there were three large canopies and a bus every 20 minutes.

"The excuse is it isn’t profitable. As far as I understand it, it isn’t meant to be profitable. It’s supposed to encourage visitors into the town. They’re always banging on about Falmouth parking.

"I’ve had three people say to me ‘How do we get to town, how long will it take to walk, when is the next bus?’

"Now it’s ‘park and ride’ with no ride.

"And it’s a dangerous road with cars that you’ve got families with pushchairs and dogs all trying to cross.

"This is the most ridiculous I’ve ever seen it."
