CORNWALL has been ranked in a list of the top ten destinations in the UK for holidaymakers.

Researchers from Webuyanycar have revealed as many as 72 percent of Brits plan to holiday in the UK this year, with exploring more of the country emerging as the top reason for getting out and about in the Great British Isles.

Nine out of ten polled believe that holidaying in the UK can be just as good as going abroad, with Cornwall topping the list with a vote share of 54 percent.

Second on the list was the Lake District with 47 percent of the vote.

Next was Scotland with 42 percent, followed by Devon with 39 percent.

The research also revealed a definitive list of things which make holidaying in Britain GREAT, with finding an idyllic country pub with a beer garden, scoffing fish and chips out of the paper on the beach, renting a picturesque cottage by the sea, visiting castles, and not having a luggage limit topping the list.

Walking along the pier, the smell of country air, and driving through country lanes, also featured high, as did heading off early to ‘beat the traffic’, and finding the perfect spot to throw down your picnic blanket.

One in six love shouting ‘I can see the sea’ before anyone else on a road trip, while 14 percent love devouring a 99 with a flake.

Richard Evans, head of technical services at Webuyanycar, said: "It’s great to see that lots of Brits will be hitting the road this summer for the ultimate UK holiday, despite the option to holiday abroad.

"Although we can’t make the road trip any quicker, webuyanycar can provide a fast way to sell your old car so you can upgrade to one that makes the journey a little more comfortable and reduce the chances of breaking down during the road trip."
