Artists who work at CAST, in the historic Passmore Edwards building in Helston, will open their studios to the public this weekend.

OPEN CAST is the name given to this annual open-studios celebration, which offers a rare opportunity to see what goes on behind the yellow studio doors that line the corridors of the former school building in Penrose Road, and to talk to the artists about their work.

There are 16 studios in the building and most will be open on both Saturday and Sunday, between 11am and 4pm.

Artists’ work ranges from abstract and figurative painting and printmaking to sculpture, ceramics and installation.

Those opening up their studios for the OPEN CAST event will be: Sarah Fassnidge, Amy Morgan, Charlie Duck, Ben Sanderson, Juliette Paull, Kirsten Shanks, Liv Gravil, Lisa Wright, Nina Royle, Bronwen Buckeridge, Mark Hedger, Rosanna Martin, Nicola Bealing, Mark Surridge, Shelly Tregoning, Mikey Croft, Lucy Willow and Tom Kaniok.

Many of the studio holders show their work nationally and internationally and have won regional and national art prizes.

CAST’s new ceramics studio, Brickworks, will also be open on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm. Visitors can try their hand at making something, or find out more about memberships, open access and courses.

This will also be an opportunity to see free screenings of ‘Foragers’, a feature-length film by Palestinian artist Jumana Manna, in which she investigates the politics of foraging for edible plants on the Israel /Palestine border, as part of ‘Acts of Gathering’, an Eden Project programme.

The film will be presented as a looped presentation in CAST’s black box screening space on both days, and will run until September 30.

The CAST Café will be open for breakfast, lunch, coffee, cake and drinks throughout the day on Saturday, booking advisable, and will also open specially for coffee and cake on Sunday, with no booking required.

CAST has also announced that the showing of its current film installation, ‘Full of Days’ by artist Andy Holden, will be extended until this Friday, September 1.
