Despite being ‘disappointed’ by its unsuccessful bid for £18m worth of levelling up funding work is continuing to fund three rejected Helston projects.

Back in January it was announced that Helston’s application for Government Levelling Up Funding (LUF) for the Helston Gateway, Cultural Quarter and Connecting Helston had been unsuccessful.

It was an immense disappointment, not only for the team who worked so hard to prepare the bid, but for many other Helston businesses and residents.

Despite this setback, work continues to raise funding for three of the projects: revitalisation of the Budgens building, development of the area around the Guildhall, Museum and CAST, and the walking and cycle project.

The Helston Place Shaping Board was established to oversee the projects that formed the LUF bid.

This board has now been wound up and a new board will be formed to shape the vision for Helston and the surrounding area.

The purpose of the Helston Place Shaping Strategy Board is to identify priorities and develop a long-term revitalisation strategy, working with the sitting MP and members from Cornwall Council and Helston Town Council, who will all be members of the board.

They are now looking for board members who have knowledge and understanding of challenges in the community including, but not limited to, youth, education, health, business, voluntary sector and the residential community.

Initially the board is expected to meet quarterly with the first meeting early autumn, and members are expected to be active participants in the process.

The board is looking for applications from individuals living in Helston and the surrounding area.
