Cyclists have been warned to be careful of their speeds after the Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing team caught a group doing nearly 40mph across the border.

The team posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing them following and recording a group of cyclists doing nearly 40mph on a 30mph limit road on Dartmoor.

The video shows a car belonging to the team following the group as they speed downhill through the centre of a village at 9:36 in the morning on Sunday (September 3).

The post says not only are they breaking the law but travelling at that speed could have devastating consequences if there was a collision at speed or one of the cyclists lost control.

Despite being caught going over the speed limit the cyclists were given "appropriate words" of advice by the team.

Along with the video the team posted on X: "please be mindful of your speeds and just how this will effect you in the event of a collision.

"This group today on Dartmoor observed travelling at near 40mph on a 30mph restricted road. All stopped and offered appropriate words of advice."
