Much-anticipated work to reopen a footpath to a beach near St Keverne is set to finally take place, according to the council.

The path between Rosenithon and Godrevy Cove is well used by locals when open, but has been closed for many months due to repairs being needed to the footbridge and surface of the path.

One local told the Packet: “The current situation has become a monumental fiasco” after repairs were delayed still further.

However, it seems an end may finally be in sight, with Cornwall Council saying it hopes the repairs will be completed this month, weather permitting.

A council spokesperson told the Packet: “The footpath between Rosenithon and Godrevy Cove is currently closed due to the unsuitable condition of the footbridge and the surface of the footpath.

“Weather permitting, work to replace the footbridge and repair the surface of the footpath will be completed in September.”

One local told the Packet: “This isn't the first time the path has been subject to extensive repair problems but, on the other occasion an adequate temporary solution was provided, enabling both locals and holidaymakers who look forward to visiting the much-loved location of Godrevy Cove, access during the main holiday season.

“There is another route to the beach but, as it entails a return journey of ascending a very high and difficult path - itself in a poor state of repair - dug into the side of a redundant quarry waste dump, it isn't suitable for the elderly, frail or children to use.”

A new section of coastal path closer to the coast is also under construction that leads from Godrevy Cove, to a gate a short walk away from The Giant's Quoits.
