Following a review, South West Water has confirmed when it will be lifting all hosepipe restrictions across Cornwall and Devon.

The company announced back in August it would be lifting the ban at the end of September as long as things progressed well.

It has now confirmed that the ban will be lifted on Monday, September 25.

The lifting of the ban follows a review of the restrictions at both its Colliford and Roadford water supply zones.

The company says because of the collaboration of its customers, its investments and recent rainfall the water resources are in a much more stable condition following peak summer demand.

A statement issued by South West Water said: “South West Water will lift all hosepipe restrictions across Devon and Cornwall on 25 September.

"We promised to review the restrictions in both our Colliford and Roadford water supply zones and thanks to the collaboration of customers, our investments, and recent rainfall, our water resources are in a much more stable position following our peak summer demand."

It says Roadford Reservoir is at 53% storage, up 10% from this time last year, while Colliford Reservoir is at 52% storage, up 28% from last year.

"Climate change has shown how unpredictable weather patterns can be and we must continue to protect the region’s rivers and beautiful natural resources.

"We want to emphasise that water is a valuable resource and urge residents, businesses, and visitors to use water responsibly and Save Every Drop.

"We will closely monitor water resources, the weather and demand right across our region, and will continue working closely with the Environment Agency to ensure any decisions are made responsibly.

"We want to thank all of our customers, visitors and businesses in conserving water.”

Under the ban, which came in in August 2022, residents in the affected areas were prohibited from using a hosepipe as well as sprinklers, dipper hoses, automatic irrigation systems and other similar devices.
