A man in his thirties has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following an accident on the A30 this morning which left three people injured, one of them seriously.

The accident on the A30 near Canonsgate closed the road both ways for a number of hours causing long tailbacks as diversions were put in place.

Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A30 near Canon’s Town, Hayle at around 11am today, Thursday, September 21.

The accident happened between the train station turn off (Saint Erth) and Collorian Lane (Whitecross) this morning.

Congestion affected traffic coming from The A30 Hayle Bypass and the A30 Newtown Roundabout and between St Erth and Penzance.

Thuis afternoon police say intially two people were reported as being trapped in one of the vehicles, but say that three people were injured, one of whom sustained serious injuries. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said in a statement issued this afternoon: "Two people were initially reported as being trapped in one of the vehicles. Three people were injured in the collision, one of whom has sustained serious injuries. All three have been taken to hospital for treatment.

"Fire and ambulance also in attendance. Local road closures have been put in place. The incident is ongoing. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving."
