A new glamping site near Helston is being considered - described as an escape from city life by going "back to nature."

Pre-application advice is sought to create Monterey Roost, a small glamping site, on land adjacent to Polcrebo House, Polcrebo Downs, Nancegollan, near Helston.

The development would include four timber cabins, associated decking, footpaths, permeable track, parking and turning area, secure bicycle storage and recycling/refuse storage as well as minor landscaping of the site, including the planting of native species of meadow grass, wildflowers, hedgerow and shrubbery.

All cabins would be connected to a new private package treatment plant and soakaway. The chosen high-end timber cabins would be constructed off-site by manufacturer Corr Cabins and delivered as a full unit ready for installation.

The application site is situated off an unnamed public road off An Vownder Goth, north of the village of Nancegollan.

The proposal supports sustainable tourism by including EV charging points, secure bicycle storage and promotion of the local public footpath network. Particular consideration has been given to ecology and biodiversity enhancements when designing the site layout.

The small-scale, sustainable development would provide “subtle and discreet countryside holiday accommodation” for tourists visiting Cornwall on short breaks and weekend stays.

The applicant intends to promote the site as an escape from the city and the modern daily grind with a “back-to-nature” retreat.

Pre-application advice can be received from planning officers before a formal planning application is submitted. The details of this proposal can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website.

Every week more than 100 planning applications are validated by Cornwall Council. All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public.

Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications – whether in support or objection.

The majority of applications are decided by planning officers at the council under delegated powers. However, some applications will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees.
