A LIFEBOAT in Falmouth was in action earlier this week in order to help move an injured man from a pontoon near Malpas.

Pagers were sounded at around 3pm on Tuesday, October 3 requesting crews from Falmouth Lifeboat to assist in moving an injured male from a pontoon near Malpas to an awaiting ambulance on shore.

Falmouth's Atlantic 85 lifeboat, 'Robina Nixon Chard' was launched and, in under 20 minutes, was on the scene where it was discovered that the casualty and ambulance paramedics had been transferred to shore by the Truro Harbourmasters team.

However, two police officers who had been assisting with the incident had remained on the pontoon and were taken ashore by the Robina Nixon Chard before it was stood down and returned to the station.

In an update posted on its social media page, Falmouth Lifeboat said: "Falmouth Coastguard were contacted by South West Ambulance control shortly before 3.00pm yesterday, requesting Falmouth Inshore lifeboat to assist in moving an injured male from pontoons near Malpas to an awaiting ambulance on shore.

"The crew's pagers were activated at 3.00pm and the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, 'Robina Nixon Chard' launched just nine minutes later.

"The lifeboat arrived on scene in under 20 minutes, to find that the casualty and ambulance paramedics had been transferred to shore by the Truro Harbourmasters team.

"Two Police, who had been assisting with the transfer, remained on the pontoon and were taken ashore by the lifeboat before it was released by the Coastguard at 3.48pm, returning to the station at 4.20pm, where it was washed down and re-fuelled ready for further service."
